Mad Hatter's Tea Party at Coombe Yarra Valley

Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of working on a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with a group of fabulous Australian party people.

As soon as I saw the exquisite gardens at Coombe Yarra Valley - once the Australian home of world famous opera singer Dame Nellie Melba - I knew it would be a perfect location for a magical Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

I wanted to bring Lewis Carroll's tea party to life, with a long banquet table of delicious treats set for many.

A breathtaking vanilla cake by Andrea from A.T. Bakes was topped off with the most stunning custom cake topper by A La Roch and took centre stage on the dessert table. The gorgeous ‘Eat Me’ and ‘Drink Me’ paperie by Paper Playground, a flamingo tea trolley from My Sweet Event and the most delicious sweet treats from Romina at In A World of Cake made this a very special event to style.

The gorgeous pictures that you see here were all taken by Mandy Couzens, a talented Melbourne-based photographer.

The beautiful assortment of blooms (amaranthus, dahlia, roses, asters, forest lace, lisianthus & magnolia) were from Red Earth Flowers and were set up in a mix of milk jugs, tea cups and jars.

The A.T.Bakes vanilla cake sat perfectly atop a wooden chest riser from My Sweet Event.

The flamingo tea trolley was adjacent to the main tea table.

I wanted the tea party to be perfectly mis-matched, with mis-matched tea cups and saucers, vases and chairs adding to the ‘Mad Hatter’ quirkiness. The cookies and coconut meringues pictured above were made by Romina from In A World Of Cake.

The partyware was all from Ruby Rabbit and included the gorgeous 'Truly Alice' range of props and bunting, tea cups, plates and cake toppers.

We hosted the shoot in Coombe’s ‘Hedge’ which is adjacent to the Cellar Door and is a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic or party with friends and is also available to book for private functions. Staff and visitors to Coombe were enthralled by the magic happening in the gardens, with many coming out to admire the delicious desserts on offer at the tea party.

The children enjoyed a game (or five!) of flamingo croquet and then sat down to enjoy pink lemonade and sweet treats.

I made flamingo choc pops for guests to take home and these were wrapped with twine and tags from Paper Playground.
